The domain of Language and Literacy Development includes two complementary subdomains: Foundational Language Development and English Language Development. The Foundational Language Development subdomain covers the foundations of language and literacy development in any language a child may be learning. It is designed for use with all monolingual and multilingual children. The English Language Development subdomain is designed for use with multilingual children who are learning English as an additional language around the time of entry in an early education program.

This is an Overview/Introductory training for Teaching Staff, Mentors and Professional Growth Advisors, Administration/Leadership Staff, Assessors/Evaluators, Family Child Care Providers, Prospective Providers or Students, Faculty, Family, Friend, and Neighbor Care Providers, Special Educators/Early Interventionists, Resource & Referral Staff, Home Visitors, Trainers, Coaches.

This training will cover:
  • Child Development and Learning: Participants will: Review the PTKLF English Language Development ELD subdomain for children aged three to five and a half years. Build understanding of the ELD subdomain. Gain understanding of how the PTKLF is representative and inclusive of childrens cultures, languages, and lived experiences. Identify how teachers can support English language development.
